I am a squid who lives mostly in the water but surfaces occasionally to read and write. Born in a fusion of cultures in Mombasa on the East African coast, where the Portuguese, Omani Arabs, and British, all took turns in ruling until the port became Kenyan. I've been chased by a monkey, swum with sting rays --sans poison, and almost fed a giraffe --it grabbed the food from my hand with its 18-inches tongue.
